Arts Month Celebration

Join the City of Santa Monica, Cultural Affairs Division for our Arts Month Celebration in partnership with Arts for LA. Santa Monica has marked this state observance since 2019, when Senator Ben Allen, with support from California for the Arts, was instrumental in having the state officially recognize and celebrate the arts by declaring April as Arts, Culture & Creativity Month. This initiative aims to raise visibility and awareness about the value of the arts within communities, empower arts advocates, and encourage greater investments in the arts industry and workforce. Through free events, resources, and advocacy opportunities across the state, the goal is to engage arts advocates and raise awareness of the impact of the arts within communities across the state. The event will include a printmaking activity with Aanii Tate and Miguelaxel Bustos-Burrola of meztli projects, a tour of the "Refractions: Contemporary Indigenous Art" exhibition by artist River Garza in the Beach House Gallery, data on how our region's creative economy is doing from Otis College of Art and Design and a civic engagement and narrative building workshop led by Arts for LA. Santa Monica's Poet Laureate Anne Carmack will read her proclamation in honor of Arts Month and National Poetry Month. Music and tasty snacks round out the afternoon. Arts for LA will lead a timely discussion on recent state and federal changes to arts funding, including updates to NEA guidelines, consolidated programs at the CA Arts Council, and more. This interactive session will equip you with the tools to craft a compelling advocacy narrative, identify key local elected officials, and take strategic action to advance arts-friendly policies in your community. Whether you’re an artist, administrator, or arts supporter, this workshop will help you turn awareness into action. The City of Santa Monica and Arts for LA is looking forward to celebrating Arts Month with you! __________  Getting Here  The Annenberg Community Beach House is located at 415 Pacific Coast Hwy.
