We will discuss how the Bronzevile gospel community gained control over gospel music's composition, production, and distribution, including the rise of religious broadcasting on both radio and television. Don't miss this opportunity to explore gospel music's rich heritage in the heart of Chicago! Dr. Chris Stacey will lead our discussion, followed by a performance of this musical tradition by The Bourné Family. The lecture and performance will occur at Pilgrim Baptist Church, 3300 S. Indiana Ave, Chicago, IL. The Bourné Family is a music group composed of five sisters, three brothers, and their mother. Music was always an integral part of their home, and in their early years, they performed as soloists, duos, trios, and quartets. Their signature sound, defined by soaring voices, soothing melodies, and warm harmonies, has captivated audiences for over ten years. As musicians, dancers, artists, writers, producers, designers, speakers, and educators, they aim to connect with all who hear them, spreading their message of faith, love, and the importance of family. Previous performance venues include the main stage at the Auditorium Theatre, the Katten-Landau Studio at Roosevelt University, the Harris Theater, Navy Pier, the Chicago Cultural Center, Victory Gardens Theater, the Beverly Arts Center, and the White Sox's Rate Field, along with appearances on Good Day Chicago and Windy City Live, as well as many other conferences, rallies, community events, and fundraisers throughout the Midwest. The Bournés are natives of Chicago, Illinois, and reside in a nearby southern suburb. The National Museum of Gospel Music will accept gospel music-related items for donation to its collection.
