Barbara Madsen’s new work in sculptures and painting create a brawl between 2-d and 3-d representation, bringing to life characters in a romper room, swaddled in a campy riot of color while eschewing the rectangular picture plane. Moving parts: antennae, ears, sonic rays, flippers, animating the senses and juxtaposing black silhouette shapes serve as absurd Rorschach tests.
