The Urasenke Chicago Association and the Consulate-General of Japan in Chicago will host a special tea gathering to honor the life of Sen Rikyu (1522-1591), one of the most influential and innovative tea masters in the history of Chado, the Japanese Way of Tea. The present Grand Tea Master of the Urasenke Tradition of Tea is Sen Soshitsu, the 16th generation descendent from Sen Rikyu. At this special tea gathering, a bowl of matcha, green powdered tea, will be offered in memory of Sen Rikyu. Following this, members of the Urasenke Chicago Association will present the preparation of a bowl of thin tea, after which all attendees will be served a Japanese sweet and a bowl of matcha/green powdered tea. Please join us in paying respect and giving honor to this most revered tea master. More Info below.
