Smash Virtual X Mezcla Present: Behind The Screens Workshop

Join SMASH Virtual Production Studios and Mezcla Media Collective for "Behind the Screens," an exciting virtual production workshop that welcomes filmmakers of all experience levels and backgrounds. This is a Mezcla community-exclusive event. Virtual production is a film technique that displays real-time 3D game-engine environments on an LED screen or volume, which is then synced and captured with camera-tracking technology. Workshop participants will explore the fundamentals of virtual production, collaborate on set creation, and film a short scene. The goal is to provide hands-on experience, ask questions, and inspire new ways to take advantage of this new technology. Joining us for the workshop will be Cinematographer Matt Brown from Knoxville, TN who lives and works in Chicago. Matt moved to Chicago in 2012 in order to work in the film industry, serving as a set PA on shows such as “Chicago Fire” and “Empire”. He is a member of Local 600 - the International Cinematographer’s Guild - and worked his way up in the camera departments on “Chicago Med” and “The Bear”. He shoots commercials, music videos, short films and features and his virtual production work has been featured in Rolling Stone magazine among other places. We are also able to provide a limited number of childcare and/or transportation stipends as a part of our accessibility practices to help members attend our programs.
