Film Screening And Vigil To Protest Fortress Conservation

The film screening of "Nyama" will take place at 10am on Thursday, February 27th in The New School, Room D1103. "Nyama" portrays an Indigenous Batwa mother and her young son, who are thrown off their land when it is made into a conservation area. Their story echoes that of Indigenous people around the world who are being expelled from their ancestral lands in the name of conservation. The subsequent vigil will take place at 12:30pm the same day, and will be held at the Central Park Zoo, which is owned by the Wildlife Conservation Society( WCS). WCS have long supported a racist and colonial model of conservation. Most recently, WCS has supported a park in the Congo, Kahuzi-Biega National Park, where human rights abuses have taken place against Indigenous Batwa people. Join us amplifying the voices of the Batwa peoples, and other Indigenous peoples around the world as they fight back against fortress conservation. More Info below.
