Shane Parish And Phil Geraldi

Make Believe + Intervals Arts present an intimate evening of music with highly acclaimed fingerstyle guitarist Shane Parish and the 'truck-stop concrete' of Phil Geraldi. Wednesday February 5th at 7pm$15 donation suggested Intervals Room at Crescent House in Mission HillsDirections included with RSVP Shane Parish Hitting Cali with the momentum of his latest release - Repertoire - on Bill Orcutt's Palilalia Records, the Athens, Georgia-based guitarist devotes his days to developing his singular and expressive musicianship. A self-taught musician, he is known for his orchestral finger-style solo arrangements, for his intense and intricate electric playing in the avant-rock band Ahleuchatistas, and as a member of the Bill Orcutt Guitar Quartet. “In the spirit of solo acoustic guitarists like John Renbourn and Bert Jansch, or American Primitivists John Fahey and Robbie Basho, Parish reinterprets canons, with a focus on a motley crew of titans of the last century: Ornette Coleman, Minutemen, Alice Coltrane, Charles Mingus, Apex Twin, Kraftwerk, Sun Ra, Roland Kirk, John Cage, and Fred Rogers." — Repressed Records IG: @birdonsixwires Stereogum: [hidden] Phil Geraldi Phil Geraldi is a San Diego-based artist and musician whose work with sound collage and experimental electronics spans nearly two decades and has been released through labels Helicopter, Chondritic Sound and Not Not Fun. Phil’s deconstructed, sample-based sound design seeks to find minimalism through a fractured and often treacherously maximalist path. His latest work focuses on modern country and an exploration of Cosmic American Music, played through a smudged lens of meandering AM radio and pedal steel guitar. These years of bicoastal interstate migrations seeded the vision of AM/FM USA, his latest and loftiest solo creation. Two side-long collages of radio static, pedal steel, crickets, and great plains haze, the music moves between lost highway melancholia and truck stop concrète. Shades of The KLF’s meta-twang opus Chill Out echo in the ether, but overall Geraldi’s heartland mythos is grainier and more interstitial, scrambled by ancient airwaves across the big sky voids of North America.
