BLACK MECCA MUSINGS/Ekphrastic Notes on Flight Into EgyptWednesday, January 2210AM - 12.30 Join artist and scholar OlaRonke Akinmowo (Creator/Director of The Free Black Women's Library) for an intimate and explorative writing workshop at The Metropolitan Museum where participants will be invited to write works in response to pieces within the Flight Into Egypt art exhibit. This show features over 200 stunning works of art in a wide range of media that includes films, paintings and sculpture. We will tour the exhibit, discuss the different methodologies of Ekphrastic writing and experiment with creating our own poetry, prose, creative nonfiction and fiction in response to pieces made by Lorna Simpson, Barbara Chase-Riboud, Henry Taylor and many others.Bring your journal and your favorite writing utensils and soar towards Mecca with us via the written word!!
