Deli Radio Presents: Food Futures + Co-Creations At The Farm

Deli Radio aims to foster connection and shared experiences at a time when communal spaces feel essential. Over the course of two months, Deli Radio will host live recording sessions and broadcast a series of programs most Thursdays-Saturdays that vary from podcasts, live music and dj sessions, to intimate interviews with artists and activists. Check out Deli Radio website for updated programming, to listen to live radio transmissions or archived programs, and to submit your programming proposal to record in studio! 12-1pm: Deli Radio presents Food Futures, a conversation series led by artist Zacarias Gonzalez that examines how urban food systems impact public housing, raising critical questions about access and equity. This episode focuses on food apartheid in New York City: who has access to fresh food and who doesn’t. Joining the discussion are DK Kinard, Garden Coordinator for the Gardens at NYCHA program, a food activist, farm educator, and Farm School NYC alum who leads programs for seniors and special needs communities across the city; and Chantel Kemp, Gardens at NYCHA Manager, food justice advocate, and Hunter College “40 Under 40” awardee, dedicated to expanding green spaces for NYCHA residents. 3-5pm Co-Creations at the Farm, hosted by Madalyn Warren, explores how we connect with our plant family. Marguerite Uhlmann-Bower and the Plant Pioneers share plant responses through hieroglyph photos, audio, video, poetry, and art, capturing their summer 2024 collaboration at East Branch Farms, Roxbury, NY. @eastbranchfarms @margueriteuhlmann @plantpioneers About the Presenters Zacarías González (b. 1984, Cuba) is an artist and filmmaker whose work explores the intersection of art and everyday life as a method for social engagement and challenging dominant power structures. His collaborative practice spans long-term research-based projects, often involving archives, documentary films, and public forums to inspire reflection and action. His current project, Food Futures, critically examines agricultural systems through communal meals, workshops, collective research, and an audiovisual series, envisioning sustainable models for feeding the world. @zacariasggonzalez Madalyn Warren grows and ferments vegetables in the Catskill Mts and travels to NYC to sell seasonal kimchi at Greenmarkets. Madalyn is co-host of the Farm Hour on WIOX 91.3fm Roxbury. Marguerite Uhlmann-Bower is co-founder of Plant Pioneers, a human-Plant relations movement and collective interested in living rightly for Nature and each other. She is a Clinical Herbalist consultant and retired Registered Nurse based in the Catskills. About Deli Radio The experience begins at the deli located in the lobby of Recess, where visitors can peruse and purchase a curated selection of goods from small-scale producers such as Live Loud Foods, East Branch Farms, Gus & Grey, Canaan, and Root Elixir. As visitors enter the listening/recording room located within the main Session space, they are immersed in a sonic environment designed by Daniel Santos, featuring sound from Booker Mitchell of Bridge Street Sound. The spatial and acoustic design encourages thoughtful listening, creating an experience that invites a deep engagement with the present moment. More Info below.
