"Fairfax is Dead: Market 24" is the inaugural pop-up event, featuring over a dozen LA-based artists and vendors. The diverse array of works will incude paintings, photography and unique garments. The exhibition explores the cultural and economic shifts in LA driven by the pandemic, rising living costs, and the influence of social media on the city’s identity and consumer culture. The event is part of Fairfax is Dead, a creative collective and nostalgia-driven project that highlights LA's challenges while pushing for positive change. The name serves as both a literal and metaphorical statement, capturing the collective sense of loss over the decline of Fairfax Ave, once the heart of streetwear and community, as well as LA at large. Today, the iconic street is filled with boarded-up shops and "For Lease" signs. Through art, videos, and written works, Fairfax is Dead invites reflection on LA’s resilience and uncertain future, sparking conversations both online and offline. The project also critiques the broader cultural shift brought about by social media and the decline of retail, urging a deeper look at how commercialization has reshaped not only LA but global culture. Located in Little Ethiopia on Fairfax, Exhibit A Gallery has hosted renowned artists like Shepard Fairey and Shawn Barber, alongside collaborations with KROQ, Juxtapoz, and Dr. Martens. Owned by LA native Richard Villa III, the gallery is a hub for diverse artistic expression, specifically those with roots in punk, skate, and otherwise less “traditional” art scenes.Join us from 6-10pm, Sunday, December 15th for a show you’ll never forget.
