Join WICE for a tour at the Tenement Museum on Nov. 14, 2024 at 12:30 p.m. Location: 103 Orchard St., NY, NY Intinerary 12:30 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. Tenement Women: 1902 This apartment tour takes you into the world of tenement families to explore the challenges and changes faced by Jewish immigrant mothers in 1902. Visit the Levine family's tenement apartment, where Jennie Levine managed a household and oversaw family finances while her husband ran a garment factory in their front room. Then, learn where and how women organized the Kosher Meat Boycott of 1902, led by women like Jennie, who both divided and united the Jewish Lower East Siders. This interactive tour invtes you to explore how women asserted their rights before they had rights as citizens, and how they inspired future generations and movements. 1:45 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. The Pickle Guys After learning about the Levines, guests will continue to explore the history of the neighborhood and hear about the vibrant history of pushcart vendors on the LES, with a stop at the Pickle Guys for a pickle tasting. The strong Jewish population on the LES once boasted more than 80 pickle vendors across the city, but the Pickle Guys are the only one that remains today.
