the Listening Room is an immersive and intimate Hi-Fi audio experince. Each Listening room is curated around a particular theme by a guest Selector who presents one thematicly related album for guests to enjoy and have conversation around. This weeks guest selector is none other than Professor King Britt, who will be conducting a Deconstruction of Common’s Electric Circus This is an all ages experince Doors open at 7pm Experience starts at 7:30 Additional Information: In 2002, hip hop icon Common released Electric Circus, a groundbreaking album that entered the cultural lexicon and remains a sonic masterpiece to this day. Produced by the influential super collective The Soulquarians, the album not only pushed musical boundaries but also garnered a dedicated cult following that continues to grow year after year. To celebrate the 22nd anniversary of this visionary work, UC San Diego music professor and artist King Britt will deconstruct Electric Circus, examining its significance as an Afrofuturist opus. The album features a stunning lineup of collaborators, including Prince, Mary J. Blige, Erykah Badu, Pharrell, Jill Scott, CeeLo Green, Stereolab, Omar, Bilal, and was produced by The Soulquarians (Questlove, J Dilla, James Poyser, Pino Palladino) and The Neptunes. In this event, Professor Britt will also showcase archival footage from his *Blacktronika* collection and include exclusive interviews with Common himself. About King Britt: Philadelphia born and Pew Fellowship recipient, King James Britt (his real name) is a 30+ year, producer, composer and performer in the global advancement of electronic music. As a composer and producer, his practice has lead to collaborations with the likes of De La Soul, Madlib, Kathy Sledge, director Michael Mann (Miami Vice) and many others, as well as being called for remixes from an eclectic list of giants, including, Miles Davis, Solange all the way to Calvin Harris & Dua Lipa. Most recently collaborating with MacArthur Fellow recipient , Tyshawn Sorey for their recently released album project. About Blacktronika: Blacktronika, a course created by King Britt at UCSD, honors the pioneering artists of color who have shaped electronic music. The class has garnered international recognition and featured esteemed guests such as Herbie Hancock, Flying Lotus, Moor Mother, and many more. More Info below.
