SPARLMAMI (6:30-7:15pm) Born in Texas and based in Chicago, multidisciplinary artist Ariella Granados transcends mediums to build a world untethered to conventional structures. Her alter ego Sparklmami introduces us to this new world, engaging us in a story of childhood, memory, and belonging. Having grown up singing in church, Sparklmami uses instinctual improvisation reminiscent of Brazilian jazz, experimental soul, Mexican bolero, and funk to express the sentient nature of being. Their much anticipated debut album In This Body is composed of kaleidoscopic vignettes that tap into her confessional subconscious. Sweet melodies and spoken word grace polyrhythmic loops as Sparklmami explores how our perception of the past shapes our present identity. AKENYA (7:30-8:30pm) AKENYA is a multi-genre vocalist, pianist, composer, and producer. Her music is an eclectic synthesis of jazz, hip-hop, soul, pop, classical, and world music. Her eclectic style and keen musicianship has garnered the attention of publications such as The Fader, Afropunk, and The Chicago Tribune which has heralded her as a “multi-faceted genius.” Her most successful single “Decay” has garnered 1,000,000+ streams and counting. A Chicago native, Akenya has played nearly every major venue in her home town including Thalia Hall, Lincoln Hall, and Metro to name a few. In 2024, she performed at Pitchfork Music Festival, of which Selena Fragassi of the Chicago Sun-Times wrote, "Exiting the stage with the same confidence she entered it, Akenya left little doubt she will be one of the next musical names to hit big." Akenya is currently preparing to release her first full length album, Moon in the 4th. Her latest single, “Hades Moon” is available for purchase and streaming on all platforms.
