Golden Egg is excited to host its first free community workshop at Farm on Ogden on Saturday, October 5! This workshop is a relaxed and welcoming space for artists to learn about retirement planning and long-term savings. Leading the session is Leslie Ransom, CFP® from Indie Financial Planning, who has a lot of experience working with musicians. Budgeting as an artist can be challenging, so Leslie will guide an approachable, interactive conversation on how to start contributing to long-term savings, even with unpredictable income. After Leslie's presentation, Deidre Huckabay, Golden Egg’s Project Manager, will provide an overview of our retirement matching grant program, which is now accepting applications from Chicago musicians.Although Golden Egg is focused on supporting musicians, artists of all kinds are warmly invited to attend the workshop! If you plan to join us, please RSVP at the Eventbrite link. While it’s not required, it helps us get a sense of headcount. We look forward to seeing you there! We want this workshop to be accessible for everyone. If you need any accommodations to attend or participate, please email us at [hidden] with a description of your access needs and your contact information. We will follow up within two business days to confirm whether we can coordinate the necessary support. Thank you!Location & TransitFarm On Ogden (inside)3555 W. Ogden AvenueChicago ILFarm On Ogden is directly across from the Pink Line Central Park stop Meet Leslie Ransom, CFP®After graduating from Pomona College with degrees in Economics and French, I moved from California to Boston for a change of scenery. There, I began working in a record store and eventually moved into sales and distribution for a small independent record label (TAANG!). I continued working in independent music when I moved to Chicago in 1991, including 16 years as Head of Sales and Distribution for Touch and Go Records. When I left the music industry in 2009, I saw an opportunity to offer financial planning and investment advice to the many talented and creative folks in my circle of friends and others like them. I completed the coursework and exam to become a CFP® Professional through Northwestern University in 2013. I became fully accredited in 2015 while working at Great Light Financial Planning, LLC in Evanston, IL. I launched Indie Financial Planning in 2016.Outside of work, I have a soft spot for animals including my 2 cats and 2 dogs all rescued from Chicago area rescues. The dogs arrived at the house as 2-week-old puppies along with their mama dog and 7 siblings during the 2020 Covid pandemic. If the pets give me the night off, I still enjoy seeing live music and enjoy the many venues around Chicago. I love exploring the City of Chicago and continue to tell people stories I learned as a docent tour guide with the Chicago Architecture Foundation. My ties to California remain strong as my family still lives in Riverside, CA. so I head back often to visit [and warm up a little in the winter].About Golden EggGolden Egg is an artist-led initiative strengthening financial security for Chicago’s freelance musicians.
