Fann Nutrition Networking Symposium

The FANN Nutrition Networking Symposium brings together leaders and stakeholders in food, nutrition, and health to create awareness and strengthen nutrition initiatives, programs, and services to improve community health in Texas. The Symposium is the first community nutrition-food is medicine-focused event in Texas. The Symposium showcases community nutrition and food as medicine initiatives and programs with learning sessions, networking opportunities, and vendors. The Nutrition Networking Symposium aims to serve as a platform for organizations to collaborate and build upon nutrition initiatives by exchanging best practices and devising strategies to enhance health in Texas. Symposium Background: Nutrition education services vary across the state and range from simple handouts and recipe cards to cooking classes and more involved intervention services targeted to improve diet and overall health. Over the past 5-10 years, nutrition programs that improve health through nutrition education combined with healthy food initiatives such as food prescriptions, produce boxes, medically tailored meals, food farmacies and others, have been gaining momentum in Texas and across the country. More recently, the President’s White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition and Health in 2022 further propelled the momentum with federal agencies being included in the conversations around Food is Medicine. Food is Medicine is an emerging field of nutrition that is improving health outcomes for those with diet-related disease, especially as each week, poor nutrition kills an estimated 10,000 Americans according to Tuff’s University. Prioritizing the health and well-being of people through healthy food programs and initiatives and ending diet-related disease, is key to creating healthier communities.
