Session 2 artists include: Bazeed , Carlos Wilfredo Encarnación , Regina Evans , GOODW.Y.N. , Ruth Jeyaveeran , Juyon Lee , Jemila MacEwan , Yumiko Ono , María Elena Pombo , Kevin Quiles Bonilla , Jonathan Sánchez Noa , Nature Shankar , Alexander Si , Motohiro Takeda , Vincent Tiley , Jaleeca Yancy , LIU YEFU, 劉野夫 , Alexander Zev , and Erica Shires (‘23, 2024 On-Site Assistant) Session 2 Curatorial Fellows: Meghana Karnik , Kiara Cristina Ventura Kiara Cristina Ventura Poetry Workshop, 1- 2pm Curator Kiara Cristina Ventura will guide participants through a poetry workshop inspired by her exhibition Tropical Frequencies , currently on view in the Upper Gallery. The workshop will start with an introduction of the exhibition and brief meditation, followed by a writing session that will explore themes of family, home, and ancestral roots. Yefu Liu Man, The Unknown Screening, 20 minutes 3pm & 4:30pm "Man, The Unknown" attempts to illustrate the book “Man, The Unknown (1935)” by French surgeon Alexis Carrel and scenes within “The Temple of the Golden Pavilion (1956)” by Japanese novelist Yukio Mishima. Through the confession of a disabled monk as the story line, constructing an imagination of the two masterpieces - the protagonist seeks to self-destruction, confession, exploring the rethink of man and the sublimity of beauty. Regina Evans Somebody’s Baby, Somebody’s Child Performance ritual/ceremony, 30 minutes 3:30pm Artivist/Healer Regina Evans will present a ritual performance highlighting the injustice of child/youth sex trafficking. The ritual is for the purpose of activating her LMCC residency space as she writes her first novel focusing on the theme of human trafficking. Teach Me What Love Is , Karaoke workshop Lower Gallery Gayoung Lee with Laura Lizcano and Lynette Shen Saturday, September 14 2-5pm Lower Gallery Teach Me What Love Is is a participatory performance series and karaoke workshop that explores the linguistic diversity of the word "love" across languages. Focusing on the often-invisible experience of ESL (English as a Second language) speakers, the performance highlights the nuances of language and translation through the shared cultural phenomenon of a 'love song.' An ESL performer will teach participants a song that best represents their notion of love, and share their relationship with the song in their native languages. Mandarin and Spanish, the two most spoken languages other than English in New York City, will be taught and sung together at LMCC in this karaoke style workshop. Join us on Saturday, September 14 from 2-5pm Musician and singer Laura Lizcano will teach the song Bidi Bidi Bom Bom by Selena at 2pm Historian Lynette Shen will teach the classic poem and song 但愿人长久, Dan Yuan Ren Chang Jiu (May everything lasts) at 3:45pm Also on view until September 29 , 2024 Hope is a discipline , curated by Meghana Karnick, Tropical Frequencies , curated by Kiara Cristina Ventura, Love Tapes by Wendy Clark, and Ghost Ships by Rhonda Weppler and The Harbor School Saturday & Sunday, 12-6pm This year’s exhibitions explore a range of ideas and media with an emphasis on site-specific projects that took the Art Center's unique location into consideration.
