Kendall Square Farmers Market Returns To Cambridge's Canal District

The Kendall Square Farmers Market is set to return to Cambridge’s Canal District on May 11th, 2023, after a three-year hiatus. The market, sponsored by BioMed Realty and produced by Mass Farmers Markets, will feature local farmers and food purveyors who focus on Massachusetts agricultural products, as well as value-added products that promote local agriculture. The market will be held every Thursday from 12 pm to 6 pm until November 16th, 2023, at 450 Kendall Street. “BioMed Realty is delighted to announce the launch of the new Kendall Square Farmers Market,” said Alex Schnip, Vice President, East Coast Property Management of BioMed Realty. “The market, a collaborative effort with Mass Farmers Markets, is located in BioMed Realty’s Canal District Kendall campus in the heart of Kendall Square. This market will provide locally grown, fresh foods options to both Cambridge residents and the business community, and will offer a SNAP match program, cooking demos, rotating vendors and more. BioMed Realty is committed to working with qualified partners such as the Mass Farmers Markets to bring events and experiences to Cambridge that entertain, engage, educate, and celebrate a vibrant and growing Kendall Square community.” The expanded footprint of the market will accommodate more vendors offering a variety of fresh and local products, including fruits, vegetables, eggs, honey, cheese, local fish, meats, and grab-and-go items. Customers will be able to grab lunch and purchase grocery items to cook fresh meals at home. Vendors at the market this year include Depth N Green, known for inspiring the popular Pushpir Sandwich at Clover Food Lab, and other vendors such as Spring Brook Farm, Cloutmans Farm, Beezy Bees, Stillman's Quality Meats, Somero Maple, Red's Best, BlueFin Raw Bar, Blisspoint Meadery, Stormalong Cider, SamosaMan, and Yummy Mummy Bakery. More vendors will be added throughout the season. In addition, the Kendall Square Farmers Market will provide a SNAP Match to local residents, making the market accessible to all Cambridge residents. The program provides additional financial assistance to SNAP recipients by matching their purchases dollar for dollar up to a certain amount, allowing them to buy more fresh, healthy, and local food. According to Edith Murnane, Executive Director of Mass Farmers Markets, "Farmers Markets emerged as essential community components during the pandemic. It was also a moment in time when roughly 20% of Massachusetts farmers markets couldn't open; the Kendall Square farmers market was one of them. After a three-year hiatus, Mass Farmers Markets is excited to partner with BioMed Realty to bring back this market. The location and the partnership couldn't be better. For those looking for healthy lifestyle choices, the market will provide a variety of vendors providing fresh and local foods, plus adjacent transportation, recreation and entertainment options.” The Kendall Square Farmers Market is a community effort, requiring public and private support, farmers, food entrepreneurs, and an engaged public to make it happen. With the relaunch of this market, Cambridge residents will be able to access fresh, affordable food, thanks to SNAP-match availability at three locations: Central Square, Harvard Square, and now, Kendall Square.
