Nubiana’s Black-Owned Marketplace spanned the 1.9 acre Lot and featured exhibitors and vendors from all creative backgrounds. This Summer will be a more laid back energy. We invite you to bring the family and a picnic basket, sit back and enjoy the sounds of live Dee Jay diving deep into musical genre’s like the fusion of Hip-Hop Jazz; the soul of Disco, the essence of Deep House and the vibrations of Lover’s Rock! The kick-off begins on Thursday, July 7th in conversation with Dr. Kim M. Janey (the City of Boston’s 1st Female & Black Mayor) about her never-been-told before childhood experiences Roxbury’s Highland Park and her journey into Civil Rights, Activism and Child Advocacy. This intimate conversation will be followed by questions, answers and an opportunity to create memories together by gathering to watch one of her favorite movie’s THE WIZ.Why the Wiz?The Wiz helps us to appreciate HOME i.e. Roxbury. The Wiz is a reimagining of the classic Wizard of Oz tale, complete with an all-black, all-star cast and Quincy Jones-produced soundtrack. Diana Ross stars as Dorothy, a 24-year-old school teacher who has never set foot outside her neighborhood in Harlem (think Roxbury). When a violent storm transports her to a faraway place, she’s taken out of her comfort zone and yearns to find a way back with a motley crew of new friends and many challenges that help them self-discover and find home. The Wiz is a Roxbury childhood classic with replicated school productions at the Roosevelt School in 1978. From the iconic casting to the costume design and music — the Wiz speaks to the idea that movies help us feel seen. ✨ More Info below.
